Walking alone in the shadow, sometimes she would manage to get out in the light but she would be pushed back into the darkness almost as soon as she did. Each push into the shadows would sting, her hope dimmed but not extinguished.
i saw her alone
in life’s gritty streets
a delicate soul
too good for this
lying low
in that unforgiving
gutter’s abyss
I’d whisper to her
get out while you can
you’re better than
the shadows
that embrace
don’t believe
those lies
they are trying
to feed you
you are better
than this
doubt not the strength
within you
deny not the worth
that’s truly yours
for sure
you’re better
than this
just look into
the mirror
look at
the reflection
the resilience
in those eyes so clear
it won’t be
too late for you
to rise above
the shadows
for you are better
than where you’ve been
